Autobiography: an account of a person's life written by that person. This is not an autobiography, it is a novel based on a fictional person. This movie won a lot of awards and I can not see why. I love this movie. It is based on a true story. It was told by Mrs Jane Pittman, who was a slave and became free , and lived to do her significant part during the Civil Rights Movement. She passed away in 1962 at the age of 110.

It is a terrific movie. I remember it from my childhood and I loved it. However, it is based on a novel. Originally, it was thought to be a memoir, but Mr. Gaines confirmed that it was a novel
