Great Movie! love Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci.
story line was thought provoking, did not give all the answers to what was going on. To have a job that entails deciding a child's outcome must be heart-wrenching

Very thought-provoking... how human compassion got repressed by the sense of responsibility to our jobs, titles, and social status... how regretful it is now...

Chris, VERY THOUGHT-PROVOKING I agree BUt, did you happen to think that the movie was not exactly the best cinematography? THat's where I differ with you (I think) But, I very much enjoyed it. Because as we said, thought-provoking. How many stars? Not sure. More than three. Less than five. ...Read more

really beautiful movie. FANTASTIC acting, interesting story. The plot is a little lacking but it's easily forgiven because there's plenty to think about. Leaves the viewer richer for having watched it.

Emma Thompson is wonderful as usual. Too bad her relationship with her husband (Stanley Tucci, another great actor) is just a sideline in the story.

Wonderful acting by Emma Thompson, as usual. But the plot is half baked and the story never gels...conflicts are open, but not explored. Characters are only half defined, and the drama ultimately fails to convince. But Emma is wonderful.

If you give life then are you responsible for that life? And if you save a life are you also then responsible for that life? It was important that the protagonist be female. Was it important that the person saved be a young boy? No but it added a degree of complexity that created more ...Read more

""THE CHILDREN ACT feels utterly of a piece with the original book: urbane, understated, handsomely realized and impeccably interpreted by a cast of superb actors." - Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post"

Good acting. But what's the plot and the subplot?? I thought Thompson and Tucci would both see what happened to their marriage, where they both went astray. And the plot, (main plot?) about the young Jehovah's Witness a little farfetched. As an American I liked seeing the inside of an English ...Read more

A very touching story. You never know how the people you meet will change your life, until you are open to the connection.

Emma Thompson is an amazing actor, but the story itself left me feeling a bit manipulated by the author. It also seemed like it was trading on a certain gender currency; I couldn't help but wonder how it would have come across if all the roles had been flipped gender-wise.

a beautiful film that will stay with me for a long time. was impressed with the complicated subject matter, and emotional depth

Started off pretty good but the sub plots failed to show the main character's complexity and instead seemed more an unnecessary distraction. With two of my favorite actors in the film, I anticipated something better.
