Is it just my imagination or is this a parody of the 1946 Disney film "Song of the South" - complete with a "tar baby"? And if the Disney film is considered racist, why not THIS one? Phooey!!

What I think that you might be getting caught up on aesthetics, like imagery, props and setting. Look at what characters do, motivations, deeper themes in plot, etc.
