John 1:26-28 would be a good read on what the Catholic Church believes about John baptizing Jesus. Jn 1:27 "even he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie." This is what John says about Jesus. I don't see how the Church is hiding anything about John.
