A life affirming movie about death. One of the touchstone films of the early '70s. So of its time, from the Cat Stevens songs to the irreverent gallows humor. That was a golden age between the collapse of the studio system and the rise of the blockbuster era, when Hollywood movies didn't feel ...Read more

The dialogue and comic timing in this film is absolutely brilliant. Not at all easy to pull off given how often it shifts tone from the satirical to the sincere.

Almost 48 years since I first saw this movie. Still much food for thought this is my third time watching and I keep finding details I either had forgotten or missed the first two times. Still love the music. And Ruth Gordon will live forever.

I own this film, which is unfortunately, buried in storage. I love this movie. Why? It puts me in touch with the spirit of the times - better than any other movie or album. I deeply resonate with the s.undtrack, which features classic hits from Cat Stevens. I just recently bought his ...Read more

A 13-year-old me was enthralled with this film, and I remain so, lo these many years later. I wish I'd met a Maude at that time in my life, when hope was non-existent. One of my favorite films of all time.

You said everything in my heart regarding this film. Nearly 50 years later, this movie is still relevant.

I don't fr*cking care about critics anymore. IT's a CLASSIC. I KNOW. But still. There's so many times in my seat where I was through. Maybe I need to see it again

I have watched this movie about 7 times since it was released in the 70's. It is one of my all time fav's. Each time I see it I get something "new" from it. While it is quirky, funny, odd and a bit on the eccentric side, there is often a deeper meaning. But you have to look for it. Like ...Read more

I just watched it because Mary from "Something About Mary" said it was her favorite movie.

LOL - Two very different flicks.

I always found this to be a quirky little movie. Its about loneliness and the reach people go to, toward any other human being, to bridge the gap. Often in doing so we find joy, though sometimes also pain, sorrow and even more longing.

An important impression of the film's time, with timeless messages about love, sex, war, and where it all ends. A must-see dark comedy with an era-transcending appeal..

In some ways, it saddens me that I didn't see HAROLD AND MAUDE until I was 25... 17 year-old me needed this so much. Don't make my mistake! If you haven't already, watch this mischievously dark but wholly life-affirming film as soon as you can.
