I found Roy Schneider's character the most compelling—especially with the possible-to-overlook gay relationship. That twist/reveal only enhanced the sense that everything required a second look. Roy Scheider's character Doc and William Devane's Janeway. Whether it's implied to be a gay relationship or not, it's totally irrelevant, as it has no bearing whatsoever on the plot, or the actions or motivations of the characters, throughout the film. As a thriller, it touches all emotions. Very well done with excellent Hoffman & Olivier performances. You might have to suspend belief in a couple of scenes, (I think editing might be at fault). Overall a compelling thriller.

Actually, you have to suspend disbelief during the Columbia dissertation/meeting with advisor scene because the script was undeveloped, and, consequently, the acting unbelievable at a visceral level.
