Made by film students for film students to win awards at festivals attended by film students. Scarlett Johnson in blackface! Will she be forced to resign?

I am getting bored with indie films that use characters' extreme flat affect as a way to establish an unsettling mood. Stories without emotion just aren't interesting, so all you're left with is a procedural plot that you can't actually invest in. Watching movies like this is like reading a ...Read more

If your in the mood for dark, tense, subtle, weird and grotesque you'll like it. A nice change from comic book movies.

'Under the Skin' is a fantastically haunting, complex and profound book. This movie looks like it was made by someone who read the book jacket flap in a bookstore and said, 'Okay, got it' and then filled in all the gaps with Scarlett Johansson walking and driving around looking all pouty. ...Read more

This is a raw film, beautiful to watch. The pace is rather slow to start, but as you get into it, it's intriguing and haunting. I think it would be worthwhile to watch again. I am curious about Scarlett Johansson's character. She seems to represent extremes of sexual fantasy, a sort of ...Read more

Dull, redundant, and not very creative.

Cool. I liked the chilly, aloof, mysterious quality of the film. Interesting choice for Johansson, who can surely stick with safer, more mainstream fare at this point in her career. If you need explanations, check out the novel, in which the character is not beautiful, but nonetheless ...Read more

Scarlet does another hatrick with Under the Skin. Fr*cking creepy and mysterious. But also comedic. Her balance has always been the reason I stuck with her career. YES

I am 50 minutes into this art school project and so far it is just Scarlett driving around town and chatting up pedestrians. Not interesting chats, more like, "Do you know how to get to the highway?" asked repeatedly. They did spice it up with one special effects shot and some full-frontal ...Read more

I found this movie hard to get for the first ten minutes. However, it has Scarlett Johansson in it. It became interesting as the movie played on. The photography was pretty good. The editing was too. The plot was a dance macabre.

This movie is slow to start. It gets interesting after 25 minutes. This is a visual movie 90% of the time.

Very weird ! A very haunting film showing a female alien specie alluring male humans to their death so the male of their specie can use the human body forms to disguise themselves. The irony is the female alien while in her own body suit begins to take on human emotions, feelings and ...Read more

I love art films. But if you put a rather plain actress in the lead instead of Ms Johannsen this would be a rather long pointless student film. And any sort of female empowerment message is belied by the real protagonist being the man who made/monitors/controls her character.

I agree that that the female alien protagonist acts as a cipher or foil for others, whether it's the director or for the (male) viewer. Yet, a protagonist doesn't have to be beautiful to be interesting. In fact, the 2018 fantasy thriller Border, directed by Ali Abbasi, is so great in part due ...Read more
